Southwest Tennessee Community College aims to employ part-time instructional supporters/tutors to provide learning support, course reinforcement, and coaching to students in one or more of the qualified subject areas. Part-time instruction supporters/tutors will provide tutoring sessions and/or perform front desk duties. Supplemental instruction is a non-traditional method of tutoring that provides group study support outside the classroom through discrete study sessions to supplement the in-class lessons. Part-time instruction supporters/tutors are responsible for attending all lectures for their assigned class(es) and providing two 1-hour study sessions per week. Peer supplemental instruction leaders/tutors will also serve as role models for other Southwest students. 
Job Duties

Job Summary
The STARS Tutor is a Grant Funded, part-time, temporary position and will tutor K-3 grade students in reading. Every tutor must relate well to children, possess good oral communication skills, and perform related tasks as assigned. The Southwest STARS (Saluqi Tutors Achieving Reading Success) Program is a reading tutoring program led by Southwest Tennessee Community College in partnership with local educational agencies, specifically Libertas School of Memphis, Promise Academy, and Capstone Education Group. Recent legislative changes will impact potential fourth grade level retention based on a student’s third grade English Language Arts (ELA) TCAP scores. As a result, this grant will provide key early interventions to move students from scoring Below or Approaching grade level to Met or Exceeded. Each student should be tutored for two hours per week for 18 weeks and totaling 36 hours of tutoring instruction. At the end of the tutoring semester, students should be able to score a proficiency in their reading test.
Job Duties
<ul>
<li>Tutor assists elementary aged children in the development of reading skills.</li>
<li>Tutor students in one-on-one or small group sessions.</li>
<li>Tutor will collaborate with the program coordinator to assess the student’s needs and how best to address them.</li>
<li>Tutor is required to complete competency training prior to work starting as a tutor.</li>
<li>Tutor must provide his/her own transportation.</li>
<li>Unexcused and excessive absences or unsatisfactory performances will be grounds for dismissal.</li>
</ul>
Minimum Qualifications

<li>Received a degree from regionally accredited institution of higher learning OR
</li>
<li>Matriculated student seeking a degree in an area of education (or related fields) OR

Compensation and Hours
Each applicant must be able to commit to working a minimum of 4 hours over 2 days per week, going up to 16 hours over 4 days per week, serving up to 3 students&nbsp;per hour and up to 24 students per semester. The hours for tutoring are flexible but should occur in the morning, early afternoon, or after school.
Each hour will be spent with the students, though a small part of each hour is devoted to preparing, wrapping up, and record keeping. Tutoring will take place in either a Southwest Tennessee Community College campus/center or one of the partner schools. Tutors must arrange their work schedules with the tutoring program coordinator.
Tutoring wages are $28 per hour.

Job Summary
This is a part-time, Adjunct Faculty position in the Department of Continuing Education. THIS POSTING IS NOT A GUARANTEE OF AN OPEN POSITION. Future teaching assignments are on a term-by-term basis, which may include fall, spring and summer. The Adjunct Instructor is responsible for the coordination, planning, preparation, presentation, and evaluation of classroom instruction and related activities. The Instructor is responsible for performing assigned teaching duties during the day, evening, or weekend on any Southwest Tennessee Community College campus, or business partner site. The adjunct instructor is responsible for performing assigned duties during the day, evening, or weekend on any Southwest Tennessee Community College campus. At a minimum, the related activities include instruction, academic advising, serving on various committees, participating in professional activities and organizations.
Job Duties
<ul>
<li>Prepares and delivers instruction on topics in Workforce Training and Continuing Education.</li>
<li>Compiles, administers, evaluates and grades students' class work, laboratory work, assignments, tests, and papers fairly and consistently; and keep students informed about their progress through the prompt grading of papers and other work.</li>
<li>Develops curricula and instructional material such as syllabi, homework assignments, and handouts.</li>
<li>Maintains office hours for students seeking academic advice, assists in student recruitment and retention; and assists students with course-related problems outside of the classroom.</li>
<li>Maintains accurate student attendance records, grades, and other required records in compliance with federal FERPA regulations.</li>
<li>Attends all faculty meetings, college assemblies, professional development and orientation activities, and other meetings as called by the President, Dean or Department Chair.</li>
<li>Keeps abreast of developments in the field by reading current literature, talking with colleagues, and participating in professional conferences.</li>
<li>Participates in departmental and college committees; and provides outreach service to the community.</li>
<li>May perform other duties as assign by Department Head/Dean.</li>
</ul>
Minimum Qualifications
<ul>
<li>Associate's degree in the teaching discipline or industry certification, three (3) years experience in the discipline, and degree in another discipline with 18 hours of graduate work in the teaching discipline.</li>
<li>Minimum two (2) years teaching experience in higher education or one (1) year teaching experience and three (3) years employment in the field.</li>
</ul>
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
<ul>
<li>Knowledge of current teaching and learning strategies to facilitate student-centered learning; experience interacting successfully with an ever-growing student population.</li>
<li>Skill in selecting and using training/instructional methods and procedures appropriate for the situation when learning or teaching new things.</li>
<li>Ability to integrate technology into course delivery.</li>
<li>Ability to communicate information and ideas in writing so others will understand.</li>
<li>Willingness and flexibility to teach classes using various instructional delivery methods at any of the seven locations.</li>
</ul>

<li>While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to sit, use hands to handle or feel, and talk or hear.</li>
<li>The employee frequently is required to walk.</li>
<li>The employee is occasionally required to stand, reach with hands and arms, and stoop, kneel, or crouch.</li>
<li>The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 10 pounds.</li>
