Job Summary

The Laboratory Technical Specialist will be responsible for the technical management of a subspecialty within a laboratory section in a fast-paced academic medical center. The Laboratory provides services to all aspects of this Level I trauma center and throughout the healthcare enterprise, including solid organ and bone marrow transplant, KY Children’s Hospital, and Markey Cancer Center.

Primary responsibility for the oversight of all middleware and software in multiple lab locations of a fast-paced hospital setting while maintaining a quality of service based on accuracy and timely result reporting. This includes working with the Hospital Informatics team to build, test and implement changes within established timelines. This position will also work with other IT resources to facilitate IT operational needs of the department. In addition, this position is responsible for facilities management and supply chain. This position is within the Enterprise Core Lab, which is CAP accredited. The CAP-Accredited Laboratory at the University of Kentucky showcases the use of state-of-the-art instrumentation and technology. Testing will include, but is not limited to, blood gas, chemistry, coagulation, hematology and urinalysis.
