Full Time

This position includes teaching with a focus on strong pedagogy and quality student learning assessment. EMS faculty must provide instruction, support, assessment, and mentorship to students. Faculty are expected to embrace the mission and community of the college entirely. Teaching demonstration will likely be required.

Duties and responsibilities:

Teaching:

  • Contribute high energy, engagement, creativity, and leadership to the teaching and learning environment.
  • Teach a minimum of 15 credit hours/20 contact hours of lecture and laboratory each semester and other instructional loads as assigned, which may include classes at the campus and online and scheduled during the day, in the evening, and on the weekend.
  • Clinical coordination

Professional Activities and Contributions:

  • Design, develop, and assess curriculum.
  • Long-range planning and ongoing program development.
  • Serve as a mentor for students and adjunct faculty
  • Remain current in the academic discipline and trends in teaching through professional development, further education, and scholarship.
  • Cooperative involvement with the medical director

Engagement Hours:

To promote the availability of faculty to work with individual students, full-time faculty members are required to be available to work with students outside of class meetings for a minimum of ten hours per week. Faculty are expected to be available to work with students on their individual academic and occupational concerns.

Additional Activities:

Additional activities include committee/governance work; participation with student and community activities; student advising; and professional activities (e.g., discipline-specific initiatives and program and general education assessment).

KSA's/Required Qualifications

  • Currently certified by the National Registry of EMT’s at the Paramedic level and possess or be eligible for Paramedic certification in Virginia (to be obtained by January 1, 2025)
  • Associate’s degree in Emergency Medical Services (or a related field) from a regionally accredited institution
  • Two years of related and recent full-time experience
  • Commitment to and enthusiasm for the community college mission and environment
  • A passion for the discipline of Emergency Medical Services
  • Excellent interpersonal, verbal, and written communication skills
  • Willingness to adopt an organized plan of instruction and assessment.
  • No citations, suspensions or revocations issued by the Office of Emergency Medical Services of Virginia (or similar office for any other state) or National Registry (within the past 5 years)
  • Experience with general computing (e.g. use of internet, e-mail, Microsoft Office, and/or similar technologies)
