The Education Lending Coordinator supports education lending products and initiatives at Harvard Federal Credit Union, reporting to the Loan Servicing and Support Supervisor.

Position Description

Customer Service & Member Support:

  • Foster relationships with members throughout the loan lifecycle, focusing on account retention and engagement.
  • Conduct in-person and phone meetings with members to provide loan origination and servicing assistance, addressing product details and application processes and repayment benefits.
  • Liaise with Retail and Member Support teams on education lending programs.
  • Manage inbound calls from members at critical loan stages and address complaints empathetically.
  • Gather feedback to improve products and service delivery, upholding high customer service standards.
Systems, Business Operations & Compliance:
  • Learn credit union banking systems and document member interactions accurately.
  • Stay informed about education lending policies and regulations.
  • Manage verification processes, repayment benefits, and account updates.        
  • Support audits and implement changes as necessary.
Training & Member Communication:
  • Develop and deliver training for staff in collaboration with the Training Team.
  • Update training resources and manage communication strategies with Marketing.
  • Organize electronic communication archives.

This position is designated as a critical role for the Harvard Federal Credit Union as it provides non-deferrable services that must be performed in the event of an emergency or weather-related closure.

Basic Qualifications

Basic Qualifications are the minimum threshold a candidate must meet in order to be considered for this role.

  • Associates degree or a minimum of two years of related training beyond high school.
  • A minimum of three years of education lending, financial aid, banking, or client services experience in a high-volume setting required.

  • Strong knowledge of the principles and practices of education lending.
  • Business writing skills to support borrower interactions through multiple channels. 
  • Must be highly detail oriented. 
  • Successful experience interacting with culturally diverse populations. 
  • Entrepreneurial spirit and the ability to take the initiative to accomplish challenging tasks and identify alternative solutions. 
  • Working knowledge of Microsoft Office suite. 
  • Ability to learn new systems.
  • Effective organizational and analytical skills. 
  • Demonstrated presentation skills. 

Physical Requirements

Able to list up to 20 pounds on occasion.

Working Conditions

Work is performed in an office setting.

Work Format Details

Harvard Federal Credit Union is an on-campus community, 

This position is hybrid, based in Cambridge, in Massachusetts. Position may require travel to all branch locations in the Cambridge, Boston, and Somerville areas. This may include in-person during emergency situations (if applicable). During the initial 90-day training period, new employees may be expected to work in the office more frequently, up to full-time. Additional details will be discussed during the interview process. All remote work must be performed within one of the Harvard Registered Payroll States, which currently includes Massachusetts, Connecticut, Maine, New Hampshire, Rhode Island, Vermont, Georgia, Illinois, Maryland, New Jersey, New York, Virginia, Washington, and California (CA for exempt positions only). Certain visa types and funding sources may limit work location. Individuals must meet work location sponsorship requirements prior to employment.

Schedule

  • Monday through Friday, 9:00am – 5:00pm with a one-hour unpaid lunch break.
  • This position is part of the bargaining unit and is overtime eligible.
